Personal Training Sessions

Real Life Fitness offers several types of fitness training. You can come to our exclusive Personal Training Studio at 133 Argall Way in Nevada City for one-on-one training, semi-private “partner” training or join a GravityGroupT or GravityPilatesT small group session. Prefer to workout at home? One of our highly trained staff members can bring the equipment to your home or office and work with you there. No matter which training format you choose, you can be certain to get the undivided attention you deserve along with the accountability you need to achieve your fitness goals!

We begin with an initial assessment (this appointment takes place at our studio location) where you and Scott will create a custom training schedule for you designed to achieve your fitness goals. You will also be assigned two trainers at this appointment. This facilitates an uninterrupted training schedule for you as well as a backup for the trainers in case of vacation, illness or family emergency. In order to be effective, it is recommended that you train a minimum of two times per week with Scott and at least once a week on your own with our direction.

Training at Nevada County's exclusive Personal Training Studio:

Meet your Real Life Fitness trainer at our studio for your fitness training. Conveniently located right off the freeway in Nevada City, our private training studio features a unique variety of cardio equipment as well as stability and medicine balls, exercise tubing, the BOSU, Power Blocks, the Functional Trainer, GTS Total Gym (Gravity Training System), The PowerPlate, (Vibrational Training) and the Bowflex. With one-on-one training in the studio you will choose between full sessions (approximately 55 minutes) or half sessions ( approximately 25 minutes) with or without use of the Power Plate. (Power Plate sessions are slightly shorter, because of the increased efficiency of the workout!) Arrive 10 to 20 minutes early for your appointment to warm up on our cardio equipment, then spend your workout time exclusively with Scott, working to achieve your personal goals. If you are looking for a clean, quiet, private environment in which to exercise with the guidance of a certified fitness professional, studio training may be the perfect fit!

Personal fitness training in the comfort of your home or office:

Let one of our trainers bring all of the equipment you will need to get a great workout (excluding cardio). To keep your workout routine fun, effective and interesting, we use a variety of non-traditional fitness equipment as well as the traditional. Stability and medicine balls, the BOSU, exercise tubing and Power Blocks, just to name a few. One-on-one home sessions are approximately 55 minutes in length while semi-private home sessions range from 55 to 70 minutes. If you want total privacy and the ultimate in convenience, this may be the best choice for you.


Initial Assessment

We require all new personal training clients to go through our initial assessment prior to training. The fee for this includes periodic reassessment (approx. every 3 months) at no charge. During this visit, Scott will review your health history, help you establish realistic goals, discuss your dietary habits and then perform the following 'measurements' to help establish a benchmark:

  • Body Weight
  • Lung Capacity
  • Symmetrigraf Posture Screening
  • Exercise Heart Rate Calculations
  • Body Composition (optional)
  • Blood Pressure
  • Girth Measurements
  • Sub-Maximal Cardio Vascular Screening

    The results of this initial assessment will assist your trainers in prescribing an exercise program that will help you achieve yours goals and information that will assist in measuring your progress.


  • VO2 Test

    This test is designed to establish your anaerobic threshold (the point at which your body begins to burn oxygen inefficiently) while running (or walking) on a treadmill. The results enable us to give you specific guidance in regards to your upcoming training sessions as well as providing a baseline with which to measure against as you progress…helping you achieve maximum results in minimum time! With each test, we will include a four (4) week plan of custom cardio workouts for you to follow…with or without our assistance.

    COME PREPARED! Please be well rested, fueled and hydrated. You will need running shoes and clothes, a water bottle and a heart rate monitor (if you do not own a heart rate monitor, we do have them for sale at the studio). Allow one hour for the test and to review the results.


    IMETT Subscription Service

    After you have completed your VO2 test, you may want to continue using our custom tailored workouts. Subscriptions are sold in four (4) week packages of “prescribed” cardio workouts for you to follow. Each package includes one cardio conditioning session with one of our personal trainers.


    Cardio Conditioning

    Many of our clients have goals that include improved cardio vascular fitness, reduced blood pressure and weight loss. Cardio conditioning is designed with these clients in mind. This can be done inside or outside – as long as you have your heart rate monitor on and have completed a VO2 test. Let one of our trainers help you learn how to work in the appropriate heart rate zone to achieve your goals! Cardio conditioning is available in half (up to 30 minutes) and full (31 – 55 minutes) sessions.

    Or are you interested in trying before you buy?
    The Real Life Fitness Personal Trainers are experts in training with the bowflex. We believe that this is one of the most Biomechanically correct exercise machines on the market!

    GRAVITYGroup™ Sessions at the Studio

    Our small group personal training Gravity sessions utilize the unique functions of our Gravity Training System to provide an efficient and thorough workout in just thirty minutes. Each participant works at his/her chosen level of resistance on their own machine, while enjoying the challenge and camaraderie of a small group setting. Class size is limited to six (6), allowing the personal attention so essential to the personal training experience.

    GRAVITYStrength™
    These exciting thirty minute strength sessions heat up all the major muscle groups for a total body workout.

    GRAVITYPilates™
    The Pilates sessions utilize the unique functions of the GTS machine to give you an excellent core strength workout.


    Cardio Tennis

    Cardio Tennis is a new, fun group fitness program featuring drills to give players of all abilities the ultimate, high-energy workout. Taught by Dave Eubanks, Certified Personal Trainer and USPTA Tennis Pro, this 60 minute program includes warm up drills, cardio drills and a cool down phase. Players at all levels can enjoy tennis together with this fast-paced outdoor activity, while getting a great workout and improving their game!

    Monthly sessions run April through October. All classes are at Pioneer Park in Nevada City. Tuesdays - 5:30 pm . Wednesdays - 6:00 pm . Fridays - 12 noon. Sign up for 1 to unlimited classes per session. Ages 10 and up, any fitness level, eight people max per class. Pre-registration is required.

    Nutrition and Holistic Lifestyle Coaching

    Barbi Jackson, CHEK Holistic Lifestyle Coach, is available to teach you how the relationship between food and lifestyle habits can be a major factor to your health and well-being. She will show you the important roles that sleep, food quality, stress reduction techniques, and exercise play in improving your health. You will also learn practical methods to initiate valuable lifestyles changes.     Sport Specific Conditioning and Circuit Training


    We offer an endless variety of sports training at Real Life Fitness. Our outrageously equipped studio (Woodway Treadmills, PneuMex Unweighting System, Power Plate, Vertimax, just to name a few) offers a unique advantage over other training facilities. Combine that with our talented staff and you have a recipe for winning! In addition to one-on-one training we offer Sport Circuit Training for athletic teams. Each circuit is custom designed to improve each athletes skills needed for their specific sport.

    Post-Rehab and Medically Necessary Exercise


    When you've finished your physical therapy, you may wonder what comes next?
    Or you may have a medical condition where exercise can assist in your treatment, but aren't sure what's safe or how to get started.

    We have the training and proper exercise protocol on hand to review with your doctor, chiropractor or physical therapist. If you have been injured on the job, we also can invoice most workman's compensation insurance companies.




    Semi-private Training

    Do you have a friend or spouse that is as committed as you are?
    Try partner training!
    Semiprivate training occurs when 2 people choose to work out together. The benefits are that compliance increases when you are held accountable to a workout partner and the session price decreases per person when shared with a friend or spouse!
    This is also a fun, economical way to try out personal training.
